Please note our new tardy policy for the 2012-2013 school year.

Persistent tardy arrivals are disruptive to your child’s education as well as to the life of his or her class.  Each day in the Waldorf classroom is planned to provide a rhythmic, harmonious balance between activities that call for self control and concentration and activities that allow freedom and expression. To experience this daily rhythm, it is crucial that children arrive on time for the beginning of the school day.  The underlying message of persistent tardy arrivals is a lack of respect for the child’s experience, the class, the teacher, and the work that is being presented. Arriving a few minutes early sets a relaxed tone for the day and allows extra time for unavoidable delays like traffic or bad weather.  

Late arrivals in the morning will no longer be received in the classroom buildings—drivers must escort any student who arrives late to the manse.

Morning Drive-Up Drop-Off Procedure:

A member of the administrative staff will be in the parking lot from 7:45 to 8:10.

• Grades 6-8: Upper grades students arriving in the parking lot after 7:55 will need to be escorted into the office by the driver bringing them to school. 
• Grades 1-5:  Lower grades students arriving in the parking lot after 8:10 will need to be escorted into the office by the driver bringing them to school. 

After the first month of school, the administrative staff will hold a meeting for all parents whose students have been tardy more than three times.  This meeting is an opportunity for staff and parents to strategize together about ways to establish the habit of timeliness.  Small changes mean the difference between arriving with time to spare and arriving after the school day has begun.

The accumulation of tardy arrivals will result in the following consequences:

• 5 tardies—When a student has been tardy five times, a standard letter will be sent home from the office alerting the family (copy given to the class teacher and placed in the student's file).
• 10 Tardies—When a student has been tardy ten times, the class teacher will hold a conference with the student’s parents or guardian and another member of the faculty or administration.  Continued tardiness after this meeting indicates that the school may not be a good fit for the family.  The student’s enrollment in Linden Waldorf School may be jeopardized. 
• 15 Tardies—If a student has been tardy fifteen or more times, the student will be put on probation.  At the end of the probationary period, a determination will be made as to whether the contract will be renewed.
